We love shooting new content for our clients! But there’s a lot more to it than simply bringing our phones to get the shot.
Today, we’re walking you through all the equipment we bring on our content shooting days. Giving you a behind-the-scenes look at how we get that perfect shot or shoot that fun video.
We use lapel microphones to capture the highest quality of sound while the hustle and bustle happens around us. These are microphones that clip onto the speaker’s shirt or collar to amplify their voice.
Lapel mics can have no cover, a sponge cover, or a “deadcat” cover. Yes, they really are called deadcats!
Mics without covers are more sensitive and can pick up every single sound around. Including sounds in the background that you may or may not want.
Sponge or foam covers give you an overall good quality sound. And they’re best for shooting inside without a lot of wind or background noise.
A deadcat cover looks like a bunch of fur, which is why it’s called a deadcat. This cover is best for shooting outdoors, especially in windy conditions. So if you have a lot of outdoor content to shoot, definitely go for the deadcat microphone cover.
Ring lights and clip on lights attach to our phones to give the best lighting for whatever situation. With ring lights, the lighting is all around our phone’s camera lens, giving an even distribution. This is great for interviews or showing off our clients making their products!
With clip on lights, we use the warm and cool light settings depending on what we need. But the main difference is the clip on light is a block of lights. So it doesn’t distribute the lighting around the lens like a ring light does. You can focus the light more on a product this way.
Whichever you decide to go with, you get amazing lighting with both of these light setups.
Getting stable shots is a must. So we use tripods to hold our phone and camera!
The great thing about tripods is that they come in various lengths and sizes. You can get a shorter one to put on your table and get that close up.
Or you can get a taller tripod for bigger shots. This is how you can show a process or a larger product.
For product photos, we switch to using a camera rather than our phones to get those quality shots. Here at CCox, we use the Fuji X-T 30.
We love that it’s small and portable, but is still a powerhouse that gives us phenomenal content. With tons of settings, we can customize each product shot to our client’s preferred style. So their product is shown off in the best way!
If you’re looking to get into product photography, this camera is great for you. It has an auto mode that helps focus on just the right part of your photo. Then you can get into playing with those numerous settings and establish your style.
Finally, we use our phones for great, high-quality video content. From busy kitchens to interviews, your phone has great settings to capture the dynamic content you need. Play around with those settings and see what looks best for each different scenario!
And there you have it. That’s all the equipment we use on the days we shoot content for our clients. We hope some of this helped you understand a little more of what goes into these days.
